About Me
My name is Chandrayee Basu and I am a qualified and experienced counsellor/psychotherapist. I have a MA Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Roehampton University, UK.
For more than 17 years I have been helping men, women and couples make a real difference to their lives. For 10 years, I worked in a Women’s Centre in Kingston Upon Thames, counselling women from different cultures who had gone through trauma and were very often in crisis. I also have over 7 years experience at Wimbledon Guild working as a counsellor with people suffering from stress, depression, anxiety and other forms of mental distress.
I am a registered member of The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and abide by the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice http://www.bacp.co.uk/prof_conduct/ and I am part of the BACP National Register, the first psychological therapists’ register to be accredited under a new scheme set up by the Department of Health.
Due to my work in the Kingston Women’s Centre and at Wimbledon Guild, I have worked with people from all kinds of racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. I believe that it is our responsibility to do the work of unlearning our biases and learning how race and ethnicity impacts others without expecting our clients to teach us. I have my own experience of engaging in personal counselling which has been essential for my own personal development in order to work effectively with clients. I engage in monthly clinical supervision with a trained supervisor. This helps ensure that I am working ethically and effectively with my clients.
I can also offer counselling in Hindi and Bengali.
